How To Read a Heat Sheet & Mark Your Swimmer

HOW TO READ A HEAT SHEET

A heat sheet is a document that lists the order of events at a meet, which includes the heat and lane assignments for each swimmer. A swim meet is organized by events. An event is an age group, gender, stroke and distance combination. Events are arranged by heats. Each heat is a separate race in the pool. Swimmers in the same heat are each assigned a lane. Our pool has 6 lanes, so up to 6 swimmers may be in a heat. Individual events may have multiple heats, depending on the number of swimmers. The heat sheet is emailed out prior to each meet.

MARKING YOUR SWIMMER

It is very important to mark your swimmers BEFORE the meet!

To mark your swimmer(s) - Use the heat sheet and a Sharpie marker

1. Place their LAST NAME/AGE on their upper back/shoulder blade

2. Make a grid (example below) with their EVENT NUMBER "E", HEAT NUMBER "H", LANE NUMBER "L" on their forearm or upper thigh (girls). This will help your swimmer(s) to keep track of their events and the Age Parent can easily locate where your swimmer needs to be.

**Sharpie holds up best during the course of a swim meet when applied on the skin BEFORE SUNSCREEN, let completely dry before applying sunscreen.
